A Cute Reboot

So I have had to do a little rebooting of this blog. I said I was going to be posting more... then my laptop seemingly bit the dust, luckily I just needed a new charger. Then where I was hosting my blog, Bluehost, said it had some sort of virus or compromise somewhere and they were going to temporarily shut me down. They tell you how to fix it on your own, there are YouTube videos showing you how it's done, it should have been easy - it was not. They make it basically impossible, and so very very slow, probably because they want you to pay for their 'cleaning service'.

I decided in the end it didn't seem worth it, I don't need to be paying for domain name...I'm just not that fancy. So I transferred all my blog posts here, which wasn't too bad, It means I lost any comments but that's ok. I will admit it is kind of a bummer since I worked pretty hard to get my last blog looking just how I wanted and now I have to start all over...but maybe since I will be tinkering with it more that will mean I will get back into the groove of posting more cute pictures!

For now here is a photo of Wylee and I doing what we do best - snuggling in the sunshine!

Failing at the blog life...

So I have been pretty epically failing at this whole blogging adventure, but I am going to try and get back into a groove and post more often.
It has been so frigidly cold and I have been in hibernation mode for a while now, which means I should have plenty of extra time to update this thing!
With all of the snow this winter Wylee is either pumped to play outside or if it’s too cold she is pumped to run back into the house!

On days when it has just been too cold (which has been just about every single day this winter) we have been working on some fun tricks training. Her most recent accomplishment has been play dead! Next we are hoping to conquer the ‘crawl’!

She just celebrated her 9th birthday (you can teach an old dog new tricks!) and I cannot believe that is has been that long since I fell in love with her nervous little puppy face!

My next post will be and “Introducing: Wylee” post, and I promise it wont be another six months before I post again!

Summer Distractions

I am still alive! I haven't been turning on my computer much lately...summer has me distracted!
When I'm not at work or napping in the sun I am crouching in the garden looking for grasshoppers. I am a little obsessed with grasshoppers.

And I've been around some pretty flowers too.

And this oh so adorable sawfly & pretty butterfly!

Look who is turning into a cat!! We made her Pet of the Week at the shelter to try and get her story some more coverage. Unfortunately her little write up doesn't really talk about her medical issues to the fullest extent and people who are interested quickly become uninterested once the hear she will probably have more vet costs than your run of the mill kitten. For now she is still hanging out and enjoying life here at Kaulback Farm.

I also haven't done an "Introducing.." post lately so that will have to be next! Keep an eye out to see who from our critter crew is introduced next!

My Everyday...Yard Work?

With spring comes weeds. Lots and lots of weeds. Weeds of every variety...
Thorny weeds, creeping weeds, vine-ie weeds, grassy weeds, big weeds, little weeds.. .you get the idea.

I have been trying to stay on top of the weeding this year, something that hasn't really been done since we moved in.
Once I get started on yard work there is no stopping me, it is just the getting started part that is hard. So my days off and afternoons I get home early have been dedicated to ripping up every weed I can get my hands on. I should have gotten some before photos but I didn't, and I am totally kicking myself for it. I could take a picture of the every growing pile of weeds, leaves, and brush but that just wont do it justice.

Yesterday I put down a bunch of wild flower seeds, hopefully the yard will soon be covered in flowers of every color, size, and shape!

Even with all most of my focus on yard work there has still been time to capture some cute!
Warmer weather means we get to open the house up and every four legged creature spends most of their time in front of the screen door. They like to keep an eye on the bugs, birds, squirrels, and chipmunks that hang out in the yard. The chipmunks even get brave enough to pay them a visit sometimes!

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring time is finally here! Even though it is still a little on the cool side most days the sun was shining today and I was able to open the house up a bit so all the kitties could get some fresh air.

Wylee and I hung out in the yard and I tried to track down some bugs so I could play with my macro lens a little. Since I have to use manual mode with this lens it was a little tricky to get the lighting right and everything focused before the bugs skuttled away.

This little bee was quite cooperative! I was able to take a bunch of photos and he was too lazy to fly away... he was even crawling from flower to flower instead of flying. It isn't perfect...but there will be lots and lots of bees over the summer for me to take a million pictures of!

This little spider didn't move a tiny little muscle...which is good since I hate spiders and being close to them and seeing them move makes me want to throw up.

Since there wasn't a whole lot of bug action I mostly took pictures of Wylee and some plants.

And this is what Wylee does when she has had about enough of me...

Kitten TLC

After lots of love, medicine, and TLC look who is finally reached the two pound mark!

I have to admit, I was really worried about her for a few days. She was very lethargic, not eating well, and her lungs were so full of gunk that she had very labored breathing.

Lots of internet searching later I learned that kitties can actually get Robitussin. The vet ok'ed it and helped to figure out a dosage. Lets just say Hearts was less than pleased when I gave it to her, kittens do not like Robitussin. Once the medicine started to work its magic she finally started to breath a little easier and was able to get some good sleeping in.

I also ordered her some holistic medicine from HAMPL. I had gotten Daffodil some medication from there when she had the tumor in her mouth removed and they helped her so much. 24 hours after Hearts started the holistic medicine she started turning back into a real kitten! She is now running around, chasing toys, eating everything I put in front of her, and purring up a storm. At her vet check up today she weighed in at two pounds (finally!) and the vet said that her lungs are sounding great; she kept her on her antibiotics for at least another week to help protect against any infection. I am so relieved she turned a corner and is doing so well, I will be sure to keep you update as she continues to grow!
